Morning Prayer
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.
('Gloria Patri' - said or sung since at least the 6th century)

Worthy are you our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honour and power,
for you brought this day into being,
and by your will all things existed and were created.
(Revelation 4:11)

Praise God, presenting yesterday as an offering to him.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul
and with all your mind
and with all your strength.
And you shall love your neighbour as yourself.
(Mark 12:29-31)

Pray with thanks for all you are doing today.
Pray yesterday through with thanks, confessing its sins.

Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love.
Blot out my transgressions,
cleanse me from my sin!
Create in me a clean heart O God;
and renew a right spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence,
but fill me again with your Holy Spirit.
Through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
(Psalm 51:1-2, 10-11)

O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
(Psalm 51:15)

Your steadfast love O LORD never ceases,
your mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
“You LORD are my portion," says my soul,
"therefore I will hope in you."
You LORD are good to those who wait for you,
to the soul that seeks you.
It is good that I should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.
(Lamentations 3:22-26)

Pray the Lord's Prayer: Our Father in heaven...

Sing or listen to a hymn,
or say the Magnificat - the song of Mary when pregnant with Christ:

My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.
(The 'Magnificat' - Luke 1:46-55)

Yours is the day O Lord,
so grant that we glorify you with it.
(Psalm 74:16)

Now may you, O God of peace,
who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep,
by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip us with everything good that we may do your will,
working in us that which is pleasing in your sight,
through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
(Hebrews 13:20-21)
