I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH
SERMONS FROM ACTS 1-15 : APRIL-AUGUST 2021
This summer we pause our studies in Exodus to consider the book of Acts. It is a rollercoaster of a book. From a small group of 120 of Jesus’ followers, the church grows to spread throughout the entire Greco-Roman world (and beyond). On the way, we see Christ pouring out his Spirit, miracles, jailbreaks, exorcisms, riots, stonings, radical conversions, shipwrecks, trials, and the message of the gospel doing incredible work to transform lives. Acts has several different purposes: It is history, teaching us what really happened. It is edification, written down to encourage us that Jesus is working through his Church. And it is persuasion, in that it convinces Christians to remain part of the church and non-Christians to get involved in the church. In this it is a perfect book to consider as we leave lockdown - a reminder of what we are to be and do as the gathered church.
